Some people may find difficulty with this new standard of Young Israel as it does represent a further challenge to communal autonomy. Yet should this new polcy not really be respected? If the Young Israel designation is going to have any real value, it must stand for something. While what Young Israel should represent can be further debated and there may also be a concern that this standard is being highjacked by certain elements within the organization, the idea that there should be a standard attached to the name is actually a good one. If a national organization is going to have value, it must be able to indicate to individuals what can be expected within the walls that carry its name. The further effect of causing individuals to consider their own faith ideas is also worthwhile.
