Within the Theory of Evolution, the chicken-and-egg thing becomes a version of the Sorites Paradox.

Here's the original, as told in The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy: Would you describe a single grain of wheat as a heap? No. Would you describe two grains of wheat as a heap? No. … You must admit the presence of a heap sooner or later, so where do you draw the line?

Wikipedia gives a common version goes in the reverse and is phrased in terms of sand. Start with a heap of sand. Take one grain away -- it's still a heap. Take another away -- still a heap. And yet, when you get down to a handful of grains, it's certainly not a heap. How does something change from heap to non-heap if the loss of any one grain is never sufficient to change whether or not it qualifies?
