Ad hominem as Formal Folly

While it is true that many bloggers, propagandists etc. seem to appeal to human's lower, baser nature - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem.

Nishmablog, on the other hand, is doing its best to appeal to our higher nature. Our meta-goal is V'chal dracheha darchei no'am.

An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the person", "argument against the man") consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief the A person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim.

Based upon this above a friend e-mailed me as follows:
"I personally stand Rabbi X. he constantly uses ad hominems to attack positions by attacking the person himself. Therefore I reject anything he says or writes forthwith as useless blather- sight unseen"

hmmmm
