Israel: Andrew Roberts, MP and Historian, Part 1

Andrew Roberts
Member of Parliament
I would like to speak to you today as an historian, because it seems to me that the State of Israel has packed more history into her 62 years on the planet than many other nations have in six hundred.

There are many surprising things about this tiny, feisty, brave nation the size of Wales , but the most astonishing is that she has survived at all.
The very day after the UN declared Israel a country in 1948, five Arab countries attacked, and she has been struggling for her right to life ever since. And that is what we are here for today, to reiterate Israel 's right to self-defense, inherent in all legitimate countries.
From Morocco to Afghanistan, from the Caspian Sea to Aden, the 5.2 million square miles of territory belonging to members of the Arab League is home to over 330 million people, whereas Israel covers only eight thousand square miles, and is home to seven million citizens, one-fifth of whom are Arabs.

The Jews of the Holy Land are thus surrounded by hostile states 650 times their size in territory and sixty times their population, yet their last, best hope of ending two millennia of international persecution, the State of Israel has  somehow survived.
When during the Second World War, the island of  Malta came through three terrible years of bombardment and destruction, it was rightly awarded the George Medal for bravery; today Israel should be awarded a similar decoration for defending democracy, tolerance and Western values against a murderous onslaught that has lasted twenty times as long. ; Jerusalem is the site of the Temple of Solomon and Herod. The stones of a palace erected by King David himself are even now being unearthed just outside the walls of Jerusalem .

Everything that makes a nation state legitimate-- bloodshed, soil tilled, two millennia of continuous residence, international agreements, argues for Israel 's right to exist, yet that is still denied by the Arab League.
For many of their governments, which are rich enough to have economically solved the Palestinian refugee problem decades ago, it is useful to have Israel as a scapegoat to divert attention from the tyranny, failure and corruption of their own regimes.
The tragic truth is that it suits Arab states very well to have the Palestinians endure permanent refugee status, and whenever Israel puts forward workable solutions they have been stymied by those whose interests put the destruction of Israel before the genuine well being of the Palestinians. Both King Abdullah I of Jordan and Anwar Sadat of Egypt were assassinated when they attempted to come to some kind of accommodation with a country that most sane people now accept is not going away.

Best Regards,
RW

Here's my open response to Andrew Roberts MP:

Sir,

Your eloquent statement is sincere, touching and well received - it's a statement that has been long overdue from someone in Britain. Kudous to you!

I would just like to respectfully point out that the Jewish people did not recognize that they needed a homeland after the Holocast - No Sir - this need predated World War I.

After the Allied forces victory of WW I, the League of Nations - with full representation - including that of the Arabs - under the guidance of Field Marshall Jan Smuts - carved up the spoils of WW I in North Africa and the Middle East - into 22 countries - 21 Arab countries and one Jewish country. This was done by treaty. This Jewish country - known as Palestine extended from the Mediterranean extending east to the Euphrates River.

It was your nation, Sir - Britain - who were given the mandate to administer the Jewish country as a Jewish state. It was British administrators who illegally gave Trans Jordanian Palestine - the territory extending from the Jordan River eastwards to the Euphrates River to the Arabs - who formed a twenty third country - on sovereign Jewish land - and called it Jordan - All with the blessing and encouragement of Britain. The country of Jordan is illegally occupying Jewish soil - because of Britain. The 'Jordainians' illegally annexed Judea and Samaria and subsequently illegally ceded their 'rights' to Judea and Samaria to the 'palestinian people'. The Jewish people are the true palestinians - but they don't call themselves that - they rightfully call themselves Israelis. Likewise the territory of Gaza is being illegally occupied by Arabs.

Resoulution 242 holds no water because it was adopted after Levi Eshkol's government legally annexed all the territory recaptured by Israel in its' defensive Six Day war in 1967.

How can I say all this? I can say all this because the treaties establishing the twenty one Arab countries and one Jewish country are the only valid - in terms of strict international law - agreements in existence today.

These countries borders cannot be changed.

Saddam Hussein tried to change the border between Iraq and Kuwait - and look what happened - many lives lost, trillions of dollars spent, coalitions were formed and people are still suffering today.

All other 'international' agreements proposed since then are illegal - including the so called 'two state solution'. Should Israel negotiate with the Arabs who call themselves 'palestinians'? Definitely yes! - But on the basis that they are the illegal occupants / settlers on Sovereign Israeli territory.

Sir - It is up to you - to admit all that I have said - it is the truth after all - and Britain should now do everything it can to undo the illegal transfer of sovereign Israeli territory into Arab hands and to facilitate such transfer and recognition of all the territory in terms of your mandate from the League of Nations.

Sir, I believe that it is because of this wicked involvement of Britain that Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II does not want to or will visit Israel - or perhaps it was because of your Monarchy that this wickedness arose in the first place?

Sir - Thank you very much for your concern. Now you know why no official Royal visits have been made to Israel.

Sir - finally - I urge you and all British subjects to distance yourselves from those who oppose Hashem. Throughout history - all those who have opposed Hashem have come off second best without exception... You know what to do.

Keep up the good work.
