OUR CULTURE HAS ACCEPTED TWO HUGE LIES THE FIRST IS THAT IF YOU DISAGREE WITH SOMEONE'S LIFESTYLE YOU MUST FEAR OR HATE THEM THE SECOND IS THAT TO LOVE SOMEONE MEANS YOU AGREE WITH EVERYTHING THEY BELIEVE SAY OR DO BOTH ARE NONSENSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO COMPROMISE CONVICTIONS TO BE COMPASSIONATE

A consequence of post-modernism. Once truth is subjective and owned, then objecting to someone's perception of things is a personal insult -- denying them "their truth".

There is also much to be said about the need for people who are loosely labeled as among the Open Orthodox leadership to be much more careful about this issue than they have been. I fear that if they do not, there will be a progressive erosion of the standards of halakhah and the party line in the name of being open and accepting of people whose lives are not normative to its standards.

I fully agree with Rabbi Berger's comment. The question to me, though, is whether this leadership even recognizes the challenge of this issue. My fear is that they do not even see this issue.
