Yair Lapid speaks to Haredi track of Kiryat Ono College

Yair Lapid is the latest "big player" on the Israeli political scene -- and there is much for us to consider in figuring out how he and his Yesh Atid party will influence that country. It is in this regard that I direct you to the following speech he made at Kiryat Ona College.

I am not sure what this will all mean but it is clearly most significant.

Recall a few elections ago Lapid's father and his Shinui party stormed into the Knesset with an unprecedented 15 seats and became one of the three parties in the coalition under Ariel Sharon. The third party was the Mafdal. In the next election they pretty much disappeared.
Now we have another Lapid with an amazing 1st time performance. He looks to be one of three dominant parties in the government, the third being Bayit Yehudi, the successor to the Mafdal. Times don't change.

I hear him as being charming and disarming. Quite literally disarming -- Lapid is saying that Chareidim won the culture war in order to get them to “put down their arms” and stop fighting his camp, to join in the project of building the State and being more integrated in Israeli society.

In short: "You won, so there is no reason to resist secular education or the draft anymore."
