Da'at Torah and the InterNet

«Rabbi Ginzberg focused on why even people who had respect for gedolim in the past, such as those of the stature of Reb Moshe Feinstein, now seem to have wavered, and why questioning daas Torah has become more widespread, particularly on blogs.»

At some point people realized that Jaobitinsky's vision of the impending Holocaust was purer than many "G'dolim" of that era. I think this served to undermine confidence in Da'as Torah as a reliable barometer and led many to question "what's it all about."

Also the Internet has dismantled authority in many cases - especially when the ruling powers are abusive or disingenuous.

It is due to the nature of change in Daas Torah.

Imagine an experienced surgeon standing at bedside and saying "Well there's no textbook answer to what this is but based on my experience I think..." The Jewish equivalent is the real Daas Torah.
But that's what Daas Torah is considered today. Today it's "He's a Gadol, he has Daas Torah which is a magical ability to know everything and we have to listen to him without any questioning."
And people just aren't so stupid anymore...
